The deaf actor from “The Rhythm of the Heart” stole the Oscar statuette

Troy Kotsur’s car and prize figurine was stolen on Saturday 13th

Actor Troy Kotsur, Oscar winner for In the rhythm of the heart, on Saturday (13/8) his car and the prize statue were stolen. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences trophy was in his vehicle – a Jeep – he tweeted. Fortunately, the police recovered the two this Sunday (14/8).

Kotsur shared a photo on social media posing with several police officers to thank them for their efforts. But both that image and the news of the theft were deleted soon after.

According to the Mesa Police Department in the US state of Arizona, the vehicle was located with two underage suspects.

“The two minors were admitted to the theft and were charged with theft of transportation. They were detained in the custody of the Maricopa County Youth System,” said a representative from the Mesa Police Department. “Mr. Kotsur had his vehicle and all the property that was inside him returned.”

Kotsur was born in Mesa, which last Thursday (8/11) gave him the key to the city.

He made history earlier this year by winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, becoming the first deaf man to win an Oscar for acting. Previously, only one woman had won the statuette, Marlee Matlin in 1986 (for “Children of Silence”), who casually played her wife in “The Rhythm of the Heart”.

His next work will be a series on Disney +, in which he will play the football team coach of a school for the deaf. Still without an official title, the production is based on a true story.
