A trio of hip-hop heavyweights will host the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. MTV announced on Thursday that LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow will reunite and present big moments during the show, which will air live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on August 28 at 8 pm ET.
According to the announcement, the trio will announce the lineup of artists, presenters and show winners, while taking a “most innovative and unique approach” to the traditional performance show. It will be the first time the show has been hosted by more than two co-hosts since MTV’s team of VJs took home the honor in 1986 (“Downtown” Julie Brown, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter, Martha Queen and Dweezil Zappa) and 1987. . . (Brown, Carolyn Heldman, Michael Tomioka, Zappa and Kevin Seeley).
All three co-masters will bring a rich experience to the show, with the VMA LL winner, the proud winner of the 1997 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the five-time VMA winner Minaj again this year for Best Hip-Hop Video. , and Harlow with the most nominations of the year with seven and scheduled for her. The show is set to feature multiple headliners including Anitta, BLACKPINK, J Balvin, Harlow, Lizzo, Måneskin, Marshmello x Khalid, Minaj and Panic. at the Disco, with Kane Brown leading the Toyota Stage with more artists to be announced soon.
Harlow is tied with Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X for the most nominations. Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd are on all five moons. Fans can vote for their favorites in 22 gender-neutral categories by visiting vote.mtv.com through Friday (August 19).
