The gala event celebrates 12 broadcast, cable and broadcast series that have addressed powerful and current issues including racism, mental health and abortion. Hollywood, Health & Society (HH&S), a program of the USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center, will present the awards live and in person on October 25.

The Culture of Health Awards recognize the transformative power of television to impact audiences with visionary narratives that address critical and challenging issues of health, wellness and equity in diverse communities. The first season featured humorous stories on topics such as health, economic inequality, aging, care, mental health and racism.

“What a thrill to announce that our annual Sentinel Awards are returning live this year and for the first time on the Television Academy,” said HH&S Director Kate Folb in a statement. “We are excited to celebrate the good work these shows are doing and the accurate and compelling portrayals of serious topics. Now, more than ever, we find comfort in our favorite entertainment shows and the meaningful stories they tell.”
Marty Kaplan, founding director of the Lear Center and principal investigator at HH&S, said, “It’s great to spotlight storytellers who entertain audiences while providing accurate information.”
The gala will be held at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theater, located at the Saban Media Center for Television Arts and Sciences. Ceremony hosts will be announced at a later date.
