Actor Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise, has identified the “Empire of Evil” on Earth. He became the latest Hollywood actor to join United24, the official fundraising arm of the Ukrainian government, to help the country tackle the war against Russia.
Hamill recently spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy via video call, as part of the Ukrainian advertising effort to maintain global interest in the seven-month conflict.
In the conversation, he agreed to participate in raising awareness of United24’s “Army of Drones” project, designed to raise funds for the procurement, repair and training of drone operators for use in warfare.
“I know for a fact that Ukrainians need drones to protect their land, their freedom and the values of the entire democratic world,” Hamill said. “Now is the best time for everyone to come together and help Ukraine rise up in this war against the Empire of Evil.”
The actor joins other ambassadors of the effort, including Barbra Streisand, Liev Schreiber, the band Imagine Dragons, football player Andriy Shevchenko, tennis star Elina Svitolina and Balenciaga creative director Demna, among others.
More recently, Zelenskyy recruited Streisand to help promote “Friends of Ukraine,” a United24 program that raises funds for medical supplies for those injured in the conflict.
United24, founded by Zelenskyy, raised over $ 180 million in 110 countries during its first four months of operation.
