On the eve it became known that the 10-year-old Princess Athena of Denmark is suffering from bullying classmates. They started teasing the girl after the public became aware that Queen Margrethe II deprived her granddaughter and her three brothers 23-year-old Nikolai, 20-year-old Felix and 13-year-old Hendrik their royal titles. Athena’s father and mother, Prince and Princess Joachim and Marie, spoke about this in an interview with Danish television.

“Well, aren’t you a princess now?” – Athena hears such things in her address, – the girl’s parents said on the air.

Athena’s mother, Princess Marie of Denmark, believes that bullying began because the children did not have time to prepare for change.

Children suddenly became the center of attention of the public. And we didn’t have time to prepare them for the changes and people’s reactions,” the princess complained to reporters.

They learned about the deprivation of titles only a few days before it happened.

I was informed about this five days before the official announcement,” Prince Joachim shared. – I had only five days to explain to the children that by the new year they will lose their identity.

However, in the palace, they react indifferently to the complaints of members of the royal family.

The decision was made a long time ago. We understand that it causes a storm of emotions, but we hope that the desire of the queen to protect the future of the royal court will be accepted with respect, – reads the official statement.

Note that the children of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie were to lose their titles upon reaching their 25th birthday, but Queen Margrethe II decided otherwise. She announced last week that from January 1, 2023, all the descendants of her youngest son will no longer be called princes and princesses, and will retain only the “titles of counts and countesses of Monpeza.” She motivated such a step by the fact that she would like to allow her grandchildren and granddaughter “to lead a life without the restrictions associated with special considerations and duties that formal belonging to the Royal House of Denmark entails.”

Recall that Athena and Hendrik common children of Joachim and Marie, while the eldest sons Nicholas and Felix were born in the marriage of the prince with his ex-wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.
