The actor testified on the fourth day of his trial against Amber Heard about his firing from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’
Johnny Depp took the stand on the fourth day of his trial against Amber Heard to continue testifying after stating that he was fired from the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ after Heard published an article in December 2018 accusing the actor of physical and psychological abuse. Depp denies these accusations and has asked for 50 million dollars in compensation.
Depp testified Monday that, at the time, he wanted to continue making “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies because he wanted to give a “proper goodbye” to Jack Sparrow and the other characters in the franchise.
Depp’s lawyer Jessica Mayerstried to establish that Depp was still interested in doing the sixth installment of the franchise in late 2018.”My feeling was that these characters should be able to have their own goodbyeDepp testified. “There is a way to end a franchise like that… I planned to continue until it was time to stop.”
During cross-examination, Amber Heard’s attorney Ben Rottenborn asked about an October 2018 report in the Daily Mail, two months before Heard’s op-ed, that it stated that he had been fired as Jack Sparrow due to “financial issues and personal drama”.
“I wasn’t aware of that, but I’m not surprised,” he testified. “It had been two years of constant talk around the world about me being a woman batterer. So I’m sure Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe.”
Depp actually said found out he was going to be fired a couple of days after the op-ed was publishedfrom a news story that quoted a Disney executive.“I didn’t quite understand how after that long relationship, quite successful for Disney, I was suddenly guilty until proven innocent.he testified. Depp has since claimed that he would refuse to make another ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie even if Disney paid him “300 million dollars and a million alpacas”. Depp emphasized that the comment was made long after he had been fired.

Depp has also testified about the pride he felt in creating the character of Jack Sparrow.noting that it changed the character quite a bit from the original script.“I incorporated my notes into the character and brought him to life, much to Disney’s chagrin initially”, he testified last week. “I believed in the character wholeheartedly, and at first, people at Disney were a little upset.”
