Netflix pulls out of Meghan Markle animated series

________________________________

Streaming service Netflix, which also produces its own projects, announced the decision to stop working on the family animated series Meghan Markle. It was supposed to be called “Pearl” (Pearl). Together with him, the company decided to stop the production of several more animation projects. Reuters writes about it. The reason for this was not the duchess herself, but the platform’s disappointing statistics: as follows from the report for the first quarter of 2022, for the first time in ten years, 200,000 people stopped using Netflix. And users in Canada and the United States are leaving streaming due to rising subscription costs – the price was increased in January to $15.49 per month.

In the meantime, the company will continue to work on a number of other projects with Archewell Productions, including the previously announced docu-series about athletes, Hearts of the Undefeated, which focuses on ex-military-turned-Athletes-Paralympians.

The fact that Megan is returning to the cinema, however, in animation and as an executive producer, the press service of Archewell, a public organization of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced in mid-July last year. The cartoon was supposed to tell about the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by various historical female figures. The second creative and executive producer was the husband of British singer Elton John, film director David Furnisher. By the way, there is still hope to see this animated series if some service buys the idea.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a long-term contract with Netflix in 2020.
