Actor Kevin Costner paid tribute to music executive Clive Davis at the pre-Grammy gala, held Saturday night (4/2) at the Beverly Hilton hotel, thanking the producer for providing guidance to Whitney Houston throughout her career and for spearheading the hit “I’ll Always Love You,” from the film “The Bodyguard.” Costner starred in the film with Whitney in 1992.
Costner’s speech recalled the music executive’s long career and his personal relationship with the singer. The honor had special resonance in the hall, as Houston passed away at the 2012 pre-Grammy gala.
“None of us, in the end, could possibly protect your beloved Whitney, but your footprints on her life are clean, my friend,” Costner said. “You’ve been a miracle in her life. Thanks for being her bodyguard, Clive.”
At the end of the night, Jennifer Hudson also paid tribute to Whitney, delivering an emotional performance of the singer’s hit “Greatest Love of All.”
