51-year-old Erika Badu performs songs at the intersection of hip-hop, soul, jazz and funk, and her individual style is as eclectic as her music. The singer became the heroine of the cover of the latest issue of Vogue and told the publication about how her memorable image was formed. According to the artist, in her youth she knew little about the fashion industry and acted on the basis of intuition in the selection of outfits.
I didn’t know all the houses and the names of the designers until I was in my 30s or 40s,” Erika admitted. – What I had was a good understanding of form — once, when I was a child, I trained on paper dolls. For me to create a successful image — it means seeing how everything fits together, like how to make a cake from start to finish.

Erica also commented on her influence on the style of several generations of musicians at once.
I feel like I made a hole in a dam. But a small one through which all this water leaks. Now all people with the same energy are able to experience what I experience. It’s a rebirth process and I feel like a midwife,” the star explained.
Note that some fashion experts condemn Erica’s style for being too layered and clumsy, but the singer does not care much about their opinion.
