Mineirinho denotes surfboards for beginners, intermediate and advanced

The idol of the waves Adriano de Souza has given advice for those who want to join this modality

Brazil can be considered the country of surfing. The extensive Brazilian coast qualifies it to host the stages of the WSL (World Surfing League). At the same time, it raises questions for those who want to catch a wave, such as: which board models are recommended for beginners, intermediate and advanced?

Know the models of boards for every level of surfing

Beginner

“The first thing I see, which would be ideal for someone who is starting to surf, would be with a big, wide and thick board. Because it will provide stability, it will be easier to enter the wave and it will be easier to get up. So, all these principles would be easier,” said the the surfer Adriano de Souza, the “Mineirinho”exclusively for Sport Life.

Intermediary

This is already the category that allows you to understand that if you are a lot above the water, there is a lot of volume and you have to find the balance where the board enters the water and you have the possibility to change the edge.

“So when you have that structure, that’s really the point of studying liters and sizes. That’s exactly when we’re going to start working specifically towards its development. Each person has their own foot size and this should be studied based on the width of the board so that your foot is stable in the center of the board, both in the middle and in the tail”, adds Mineirinho.

advanced path

“The board has to be developed especially for you. When you are at an intermediate level, you can ride the wave and maneuver. But you will only begin to study the evolution point of your surfing”, explains Adriano.

Tips to start surfing

Want to find the sport that will constantly challenge you? Surfing is a good alternative, i.e. it’s not a skill that is “born” with a touch of magic and requires persistence after a string of failures.

“The only advice I would give you is that surfing takes time to get the happiness it will bring you. Many times, other sports are a little faster, like tennis and soccer. You fall in love with it right away because it’s a little easier. Sometimes, the day you started surfing was not fresh waves, the day was raining and the wind was strong and oppressive,” he advised.

“So, all these variations of nature interfere with the quality of the wave. That’s why surfing you have to go several times to understand the whole environment. The day you take a classic day, you can surf and perform well, I’ I’m sure you’ll never stop surfing,” concluded Souza.

Career

Adriano de Souza was born on February 13, 1987 in the municipality of Guarujá (SP). Mineirinho became the first champion of the WSL (World Surf League) in 2015, which until 2014 was called ASP (Association of Professional Surfers).

The horn blew for the end of the semi-final of Pipe Masters in Pipeline, Hawaii on December 17, 2015. Adriano thus won the fierce “battle” with the Hawaiian Maison Ho and got the top prize of the modality. Mick Fanning and Gabriel Medina could have won the trophy, but Adriano went to the final, won, “took” the stage and status as the first Brazilian to win the Pipe Masters.

Another curiosity of Mineirinho’s career is the retrospective against the American Kelly Slater. Souza won the most from Kelly in the heats with 11 wins out of 15 times they’ve met. The 2021 season was the last for Adriano.
