The agency found problems in product hygiene, raw material quality and pest control; commercialization normally follows after the changes, says Fugini
A National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) announced this Wednesday 29, the suspension of the production, distribution, trade and use and manufacture of the brand’s products flee, a tomato sauce, mayonnaise, mustard and canned vegetables company. Marketing follows as normal, and the indicated changes have already been made, the company says.
The decision was motivated by the identification of defects in good manufacturing practices related to product hygiene, quality control and raw material safety, pest control, traceability, among other issues.
Good manufacturing practices are rules that food manufacturing companies must follow to ensure the sanitary quality of the products to be marketed.
The leaks were identified by Anvisa during an inspection carried out at the company’s headquarters in Monte Alto, a city in the interior of the state. The São Paulo Surveillance Center and the municipality’s Health Surveillance also participated in the action.
“These defects can impact the quality and safety of the final product”, informs Anvisa in a note. The measure, according to the agency, is preventive and the suspension of the production and sale of the brand’s products will be valid until the company adapts the production process to the rules of good manufacturing practices.
recall mayonnaise
Anvisa also communicated that it will publish, this Thursday, another resolution prohibiting the marketing, distribution and use of Fugini mayonnaise. According to the agency, products expiring in January, February or March 2024, and all lots expiring in December 2023 and numbered starting with 354, are prohibited. Anvisa leads the recall of items.
The provision was adopted due to the use of out-of-date raw materials in the manufacturing process, a fact verified in the same health inspection.
“Expired foods, including their raw materials, are considered unfit for consumption, according to the Consumer Protection Code, and their display for sale or consumption is considered a health infraction,” Anvisa said in the release.
The agency said businesses and consumers who have batches of the product should not use them and should contact Fugini immediately so the company can recall the items.
“The food recall aims to remove products from the market that pose a risk or harm to consumer health,” the agency added.
The changes have already been made according to the company
In a statement, Fugini said the company has already made the changes indicated in the inspection, and said the marketing and consumption of the brand’s products “proceed as normal in retail outlets.”
“We went through an inspection process at one of our establishments, in the city of Monte Alto-SP, which generated an order to modify some internal processes and procedures, we complied and quickly modified the points indicated”, says the company in a note posted on social media.
“All Fugini products that are intended for home consumption, for sale in markets or stored in distribution centers remain safe and available to consumers,” added the company, which denied the order to recall its products.
“Importantly, there is no recall batch and the marketing and consumption of our products normally follows, at retail outlets,” said Fugini.
