How was the discovery of bowel cancer
Simony commented that she has always taken great care of herself. Before the pandemic, for example, she followed a strict fitness routine, with intense workouts and healthy eating. With social isolation restrictions lifted, the singer returned to the gym, but she began to feel excessive fatigue. One day while she was taking a shower, she noticed a lump in her left groin.
After performing medical procedures, the doctor requested an ultrasound to check the groin lump. However, nothing unusual was found at the time. “However, the tongue started growing a lot and it hurt a lot. Then I started doing several more tests and went to a proctologist,” she said during the interview.
After talking to the doctor and passing the tactile exam, Simony received the recommendation to undergo colonoscopy urgently the next day. At the age of 46, she was surprised to discover that this type of exam is generally indicated for people over 45, and that she was unaware of it. “No one has ever told me that. A lot of people don’t know that. Maybe if I had done that at 45 I would have suffered less in treatment,” she said.
After the test result came to his cell phone, he opened the material and found that he had bowel cancer. “I was having a beer at home and I opened the test result and it said carcinoma. At that moment, I thought I was going to die. Then I called my doctor friend, got a printout of the test and the I sent to her,” recalls the singer. “A cancer patient’s doctor is everything in that patient’s life. He will change everything you feel during a heavy treatment like cancer,” he emphasizes.
Next steps
After doing more complementary tests, Simony was informed that the cancer had not spread. However, the tumor had already been in her body for about a year, and she only discovered it through infection and a medical investigation.
“If it hadn’t come out, I wouldn’t have found out. From my gut, I felt I was a little different, but as I’ve always had a gut problem, I didn’t pay much attention, because when you have a more serious problem, it feels like that you never keep emptying everything every time you go to the bathroom,” she points out.
Bowel cancer treatment
The artist went to the studio and was hospitalized the same day to place the catheter, which is expected to remain in her body for a year, at the site where she received chemotherapy. “The other day I started chemotherapy, which is a very heavy, very painful treatment. The first session lasted 8 hours, the second 3 to 4 hours and the third 2 hours. I stay with you and then it stays there. The first time, I felt nothing and the second time I felt horribly hot,” he points out.
She recalls that the treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation therapy, had a total impact on her vitality and disposition. “I would come home and my 9-year-old son would call me to play and I didn’t even have the strength to get out of bed because I was very weak,” he says. “There were days when I cried a lot, when I was very scared and it’s normal, you have to live with it,” underlines the singer.
Simony’s health today
At the end of the chemotherapy treatment, Simony found that the cancer had shrunk by about 50% and that the nodules were no longer present in his body. “When we go through an illness like this, the line I always say is one day at a time because it really is one day at a time. We have to live one day at a time. And what you have in mind is the most important thing especially because you can choose to undergo to a treatment like this crying or you can go through it looking ahead and aiming for your cure and facing it smiling. I have decided to walk the path of healing, the path of faith, the path of hope and to believe, “he stresses.
Today Simony has finished his treatment and is only carrying out preventive monitoring.
