There is no scientific basis, but according to popular wisdom, if the baby is a girl, the mother will notice some (or all) of these symptoms!
Are there really “clues” to satisfy the curiosity of parents eager to find out the sex of the baby? Conventional wisdom carries countless sympathies and stories that promise to reveal more about the child. Most of them take into account factors such as the body shape of the pregnant woman, the types of symptoms and the behavior of the mother.
Before diving into these famous beliefs, remember: they are just myths and (not all) have scientific proof. The sex of the child is determined precisely at the moment of fertilization of the egg and the the only effective method of revealing this is gestational examinations. From the eighth week onwards, the mother can already take a blood sample, known as fetal sexing, to identify the presence of the Y chromosome – which indicates male sex – and, by the sixteenth week, the ultrasound will indicate with certainty if the child is a girl or a boy.
Although the exams have not been carried out, some of them are worth checking signs that your baby is a girl, according to popular beliefs. If the parents already know the answer, let’s take the quiz! Is what they say out there true or not?

1. The belly becomes more “round”
There are those who believe that the shape of the body during pregnancy can reveal a lot about the gender of the baby. If your tummy is very round, it’s a sign that you are about to have a girl! On the other hand, if the region seems more “spiky”, perhaps a boy will come along.
2. Desire for sweet foods
Many pregnant women will experience unusual cravings during pregnancy, but if desserts steal more space on the menu, it could be a sign that a baby girl is on the way!
3. The left breast looks bigger
We know that changes in the breasts during pregnancy are common, but some say that, If your left breast appears a little larger than your right, you are pregnant with a girl.
4. Lots of morning sickness
A classic! Who has never heard of it Having severe and frequent morning sickness – which can occur in early pregnancy – means the baby is a girl? It is one of the best known myths out there and has even won studies.
One, conducted by scientists at the University of Washington, with data between 1987 and 1996, compared 2,110 pregnant women who experienced severe morning sickness in the first trimester. To our surprise (or not), the belief was confirmed: these women were 50% more likely to give birth to a girl.

According to popular wisdom, urine colors are an indicator of the baby’s gender. That is, if the pee looks more dull and yellow, with bright colors, there’s a girl on the way!
6. The baby’s heart is racing
A baby’s normal heart rate in the womb ranges between 120 and 160 beats per minute (bpm). According to an ancient belief, if the heart rate is a little higher, 140 bpm or more, the woman is pregnant with a girl.
7. The linea nigra is below the navel
The linea nigra is one of many changes caused by pregnancy hormones. It is a vertical line, in the center of the pregnant woman’s belly, usually dark in color, which is formed due to the increase in the concentration of melanin in the region. The myths that revolve around the phenomenon state that, in the gestation of girls the sign ends below the navel.
8. Weight gain on the sides of the body
Due to hormonal changes, water retention in the body or the growth of the fetus itself, women gain weight during pregnancy. If the weight gain is most noticeable around the waist, some say you are expecting a baby.
