Gui Santos expectations for the Summer League
“Take advantage of the opportunities I have there. To be able to surprise the guys (the Golden State Warriors coaching staff) a little more and they already really like me. It proves some points of doubt that they have there, God willing to join the team next season. We haven’t talked about it, but these are the plans,” says Gui Santos exclusively for Sport Life.
The 2023 Summer League will take place July 7-17 with all games hosted at the Thomas & Mack Center, a multi-purpose arena located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The Summer League is the “traditional” holiday tournament of the world’s major basketball league and gives opportunities to athletes who lack space on a major team.
“I learned many things, both physical and tactical, and also techniques. The kids have a very different way of teaching here in Brazil. This was very important to me and I learned a lot about the problems of physical evolution, in particular. It is It was a period of great learning,” Gui analyzes on his experience abroad.
Gui Santos’ analysis of his squad in the 2022/23 G League
Santos participated in 43 games (showcase + regular season), averaging 10.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.6 blocks and 0.6 steals in 25.1 minutes per game blocked. He also played in that tournament’s All Star Duel, where performances included 15 points, four rebounds and six assists.
Santa Cruz almost did not advance to the conference playoffs, that is, it was in seventh place in the regular season, in the tiebreaker criteria it lost to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (cast B of the Houston Rockets) and was “seeing ships” in the round of 16 G League Final.
“We just overtook the Vipers. It’s due to the fact that we had many injuries during the season. We took on many new players, the team wasn’t 100% and this made us lose some games during an important phase for the team” , claims the outside.
Brazilian team
Gui participated in the call-up of the current Brazilian national team manager, Gustavo de Conti, in the qualifiers. Which even qualified the team for the 2023 World Cup. Tournament that will take place from August 25 to September 10 with venues distributed in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
Additionally, Brazil are in Group G of the World Cup alongside Iran, Spain and the Ivory Coast. “The current work of the technical commission (Brazilian national team) is very good. They are doing an excellent job of renewal and at the same time they continue with the experience of the players, who have played for a long time in the national team. This ends up bringing a very good balance” , concludes Gui Saints.
