The government of São Paulo has released the conditions that will allow free access to medical cannabis by the public health system of the state

On January 31st of this year, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), governor of São Paulo, has sanctioned the law that releases medical cannabis medicines from SUS in the state. After the decision, more precisely at the beginning of this month, it was announced that the patients have been diagnosed Dravet syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome AND tuberous sclerosis they will be able to receive free treatment from the public health network of São Paulo.

Since the beginning of the year, the regulation of the new law has been discussed in a commission made up of specialists in the treatment of medical cannabis, members of the Judiciary, Anvisa and the Executive. The group determined that these diseases will be first on the list of beneficiaries of the legislation.

No date has yet been set for patients to start collecting medical cannabis medicines from SUS units. However, the commission has already informed that, for this, people must present a medical report and a prescription, as well as demonstrate that they are unable to make the purchase by their own means.
