The 29-year-old competitor is one of Brazil’s Olympic medal hopefuls at Paris 2024
June 23 is Olympic Athlete Day, the date of which honors all who donate to be present at the Olympics, and also marks the anniversary of the founding of the IOC (International Olympic Committee). Gymnast Caio Souza, from Minas TĂȘnis Clube and the Brazilian national team, he reaffirmed his focus on excellence on the day as he is honored alongside his professional colleagues and friends.

Caio Souza’s account and recent history on Olympic Athlete Day
“For a long time we have been training to be able to reach high performances. Every year that passed we improved a little and I think that this was the result of what we are having. So, it is to keep training at the best possible and looking for the ‘excellence,” said Caio in an exclusive interview for Sport Life.
On June 11, Souza concluded her participation in the Osijek, Croatia leg of the World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics, entitled to four medals in five contested fixtures. In total, Caio won gold on fixed bar, silver in jumping, and “won” two bronze medals on uneven bars and rings.
Chance or not, this Balkan country has become special in the gymnast’s “path”, that is, it presented a performance similar to that of 2022 in which it also obtained four medals in Croatia, with silver in jumping and rings and bronze in fixed bar and horse races.
Arthur Zanetti and Arthur Nory also represented Brazil on the podium with their respective silver fixed bar and rings medals. This type of tournament serves as preparation for the World Cup, scheduled for October.
“I think now is not the best. Before the world championship, we have the Brazilian championship and there will also be a World Cup in Paris. So, the preparation is going on, now we have slowed down the pace because there is some time until the Brazilian championship, but the periodization is starting to rise again” the athlete reflected.
Career
Caio is a four-time Brazilian champion, South American champion and eighth in the Olympic final and at the Tokyo 2020 World Cup. At the Pan de Lima 2019 he won two gold medals in the team and individual competition. When asked if an Olympic medal is the “icing on the cake” of his trajectory, he lost track of that label.
“I think what I can bring from Tokyo to Paris is experience and that will definitely make a difference. I think it’s not the icing on the cake. It’s a goal. Besides the Olympics, I also have a goal to be a world medalist. So , it would be a great happiness to have these two goals and I’m working hard to achieve them”, concluded Caio Souza.
