Herbal teas before and after the cycle help fight colic; see which ones to get


Natural herbs can be your best friend when it comes to preventing or fighting pain.

Of all the symptoms a person faces during menstruation, cramps are probably the most bothersome. For some women it is even comparable to the pain of childbirth.

“Menstrual cramps are contractions of the uterus induced by inflammatory cytokines already increased in this phase of the menstrual cycle and also by the genetic factor and the consumption of hydrogenated and saturated fats,” explains nutritionist Cristiane Silveira Dutra Molina.

To prevent these pains from becoming so strong, the nutritionist has developed a cycle of herbal teas that she usually prescribes to her patients who suffer in this period.

To enhance its effects, the nutritionist also recommends including some anti-inflammatory foods in the diet, such as turmeric (1 teaspoon a day), ginger (1 g) and cinnamon sticks (every day, even in herbal teas, 3 times a day ).

There are still some nutrients that contribute to uterine relaxation, such as magnesium, calcium and vitamin B6.

The tea cycle should begin three days before menstruation and continue until five days after the end of the menstrual cycle.

So grab your calendar and plan ahead!

Tea cycle:

  • Menstrual phase – days 1 to 5 of the cycle: chamomile or star anise
  • Post menstrual phase – from the 6th to the 10th day of the cycle: raspberry tea and red fruits
  • Ovulatory phase – day 12-17 of the cycle: lemon balm or sweet herbal tea
  • Luteal phase – day 18 until menstruation: Ginger tea

*1 tablespoon of herbs in 1 cup of water
