This bookstore has an intimate feel filled with Brazilian art


With an intimate atmosphere and Brazilian artwork, the library of Caru Cunha, Sílvia Camargo and Nana Cunha is a highlight of CASACOR São Paulo

In a post-pandemic world, hospitality has become increasingly present in architecture. And not only in what we live in: the collective and commercial areas value more and more the well-being of the users.

And it was from there that the concept of Library with Artdeveloped by professionals Nana Cunha, Caru Cunha AND Silvia Camagoto house the collection of Landscape Library, a point of reference for 40 years in the art book segment. The project is part of CASACOR São Paulo 2023.

“The inspiration for our project was based on the desire to encourage the presence of visitors as an invitation to individual and collective exploration and discoveries, connecting the body and the home, mixing moments of contemplation or greater interaction with other people”, explains. Caru Cunha.

Right at the entrance of 70 sq mthe visitor breathes the amazon in a nocturnal atmosphere, a dark space with references that refer to our nature and a carpentry that acts as a backdrop to support the art books. From the symmetrical niches to the independent luminous tracks, which direct the small spotlights towards the collection, in particular the Taschen titles, everything is aimed at highlighting each article with elegance and sobriety.

“We researched bookstores around the world to arrive at this solution, which involves and embraces those who arrive, always focusing on our customers,” he adds. Silvia Camago. “The book of Sebastiao Salgado for what concern amazonbest-seller of Landscape Livraria, inspired us, that’s why the Vittoria Regia carpet green, with its white flower, and the Pirarucu armchair (symbol of the Amazon Basin) signed by Sergio MatosSilvia concludes.

The artistic-architectural partnership was also completed by the refined aspect of the visual artist Nana Cunha. Two panels, coming directly from his studio in the city of Uberaba, Minas Gerais, have been put on display and delimit the project. “Produced especially for the exhibition, the paintings bring the forest, forests and the importance of sustainability,” sums up Nana.

Of MDF with color release moss, the shelves arranged on both sides of the bookcase have been designed to highlight the color of the items. In the collection, editions such as fashion without fear of Tom Ford and the works of the Italian caravaggio sharing eyes with the enigmatic ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’, by Vermer.

In the central arrangement, the table interrupts the circulation and supports iconic books, such as the works of the well-known Milanese architect and designer. Gio Ponti accompanied by the beautiful edition, in hardcover, by the German publisher Taschen, in homage to the legacy of the Italian designer Emilia Pucci.

In a corner near the entrance, the Pirarucu armchair, Sergio J Matosit stands out for the eccentricity of the backrest with transversal lines inspired by the spine of a fish: a real embrace for those who decide to sit down and read a book.

The homage to the Brazilian territory continues with the majestic carpet, designed by Silvia Camago in the form of a royal victory, on which the bench of the Ianomami was also placed, Sergio J Matos, handcrafted with a braided rope. In front, the photographs of the Amazon, taken from the gaze of Sebastiao Salgadothey are displayed on huge pages placed prominently on a pulpit designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.

The landscape appears in the arrangement of vases and species that adorn the back of the bookcase. The work involved the curved wall in the small garden that surrounds the pouf designed by Betina Lafer and illuminated by the pendant made of methacrylate, technopolymer, aluminum, Ross Lovegrove for Artemis.
