Basically, when physiotherapy is indicated, its objectives are:
- Relieve pain;
- Control inflammation;
- Promote better tissue recovery or regeneration;
- Avoid retractions of the joint capsule;
- Correct the wrong movements of the shoulder;
Regain patient functionality.
Therapeutic techniques, as well as their intensity and regularity, are individualized and varied. They usually include applications of ice, lasers and electric currents, with an anti-inflammatory purpose. Massages, in their various forms, are also used by physiotherapists, as are exercises and postures, tractions and relaxations. Muscle-strengthening exercises are essential in recovery, to restore the harmony of the movement of the shoulder. If the person practices sport, it is advisable to return to training, but progressively and without initial excesses. In most cases, physiotherapy and other adjuvant treatments resolve the problem. When this does not happen, perhaps the indication is surgery.
