The impact of sport on the life of Ikaro Kadoshi

“I can say that sport saved my life. I’ve always been a very delicate, feminine and very quiet child. So it was a ‘full plate’ to be bullied at school. I was in physical education. I felt alive for the first time when I started playing,” he said ikaro in an exclusive interview for Sport Life.

In this way, Kadoshi relied on sports to deal with the bullying and prejudice he suffered due to his sexuality in his youth. Moreover, there have been cases in which he avoided using the men’s bathroom to avoid assaults and had to leave school escorted by the police.

This period allowed him to cultivate his passions for indoor soccer and athletics. An education teacher identified his talent and asked him not to give up these modes.

“I felt alive in the sense of moving around and feeling useful in some way, mainly for what sports do. It was the first time people saw that I was good at what I was doing. They stopped cursing me or making the bully to start cheering for me,” the artist recalled.

The artist also achieved the feat of being the first drag queen with an exclusive partnership with the Nike brand in Brazil, which marks a significant milestone for the LGBTQIAPN+ community and representation in the sports industry.

Ikaro Kadoshi’s relationship with Corinthians, his favorite team

June 28 is celebrated every year as International LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day and in 2022 Ikaro enjoyed that day for the first time “alongside” Timão at the Neo Química Arena against Boca Juniors for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores de América, match that finished 0-0.

“It was a big surprise for me to be able to go at 41 for the first time to watch my favorite team. I won’t say it was easy because we were tense. It’s a place where you know that generally the screams are to belittle the other because of his sexuality. I’m already very apprehensive, but I’ve been treated very well from the moment I arrived,” he recalled.

At that time, Kadoshi followed this match through the west premium and vip sectors and separated by protective measures. “The emotion of finally being able to go to the stadium as I am, with my job and being able to shout for the team that I support all my life was one of the emotions that I will never forget in my life,” he admitted. .

Early career as a drag queen

Ikaro started the “Caravana das Drags” project as a program consultant, whose role was to teach people involved in the project about Drag culture, examples: what it was like to work in drag, difficulties and doubts. This process helped him get invited to a test host on the show.

The program launched in April 2023 for the whole world is the first competition, which shows Brazil and Brazilian culture through the eyes of Drag Queens, who put all their talents to the test.

The first season of the program has eight episodes and a special with ten participants in which the contestants travel to Rio de Janeiro, Goiânia, Diamantina (MG), Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza, São Luís and Belém to draw inspiration and repertoire in different traditions .

“It was a beautiful process. I am very proud that our art is being seen on that screen. We did not yet have a program in Brazil that showcased all the nuances and talents of the Brazilian Drag Queen. Being the guiding principle of this journey is my gift bigger,” he commented.
