While Brazilian cinemas have already received the release of the film “Missão Impossible 7 – Reckoning”, Tom Cruise is once again the ball of time. At the age of 61, the actor displays a physique that attracts praise and a healthy-looking face, rejecting exaggerated cosmetic modifications.

In interviews, Tom indicates that frequent exercise is the main reason for his appearance. He said he practiced several sports at the same time, such as “bodybuilding, walking and fencing”.

Tom’s secret is shared by nutritionist Marcella Garcez, director and professor of the Associação Brasileira de Nutrologia (ABRAN). “The practice of various physical activities, with a moderate increase in loads and frequency, gives him greater physical preparation. Basically, the practice of physical activity improves the markers of premature aging, but training must be programmed, moderate and constant, since excess can accelerate aging, as much or more than a sedentary lifestyle, “she says.

“The fitness we see is the result of years of physical conditioning, but it’s never too late to start,” explains Tom Cruise about his appearance, usually showing no signs of having undergone cosmetic procedures.

“If he had an aesthetic treatment, and it is possible that he did, it was minimally invasive, like a microfocused ultrasound, which stimulates the production of collagen,” explains dermatologist Abdo Salomão Jr., a member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.

A very common feature among men

According to plastic surgeon Beatriz Lassance, a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, male patients are the majority in her office.

“They often come to our service, they want to improve something, but no one notices it, or they don’t need to be away from their routine. Women usually talk to everyone about the procedure they’ve had, tell them the details, men want none of it, and even make very grounded speeches about the absurdity of having plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures, quoting politicians and actors who seem weird. And I agree with this reasoning,” says Beatriz.

“My philosophy is to improve appearance without changing personal characteristics, without transforming the face, simply by improving it and making the patient feel better. Luckily, technology helps us a lot,” adds the doctor.

Procedures that are most sought after

Microfocused ultrasound, for example, is a highlight in this regard. “It manages to stimulate collagen and, by reaching the muscle, it also manages to tighten the skin. In Brazil, the Atria treatment is a highlight, as it has two types of applicators that can be used with maximum results in collagen stimulation. With that, we have rejuvenation without changing the patient’s characteristics. It is a totally natural result,” explains Abdo Salomão, who also recommends lasers to improve skin quality.

“The Solon Pro Collagen laser, for example, has a configuration mode that acts superficially, improving the epidermis, which also thins with aging. This association, treating layer by layer, produces natural results,” says the doctor.

Concerns about surgeries

There’s no reason to worry about surgeries, says Beatriz. “Cases of moderate to severe flaccidity benefit very little from static procedures and may require surgery. There is no more room for plastic-faced patients these days. Current techniques give the patient a more relaxed and happy appearance, without identifying plastic surgery,” says the doctor.

“The skin above the eyelids can be a sign of a sagging eyebrow, if only the skin is removed, the eyebrows go down even more and the sad look remains. Her face should be treated with harmony. In the same surgical procedure, the volume can be restored with fat grafting, i.e. the fat is removed from the patient himself with thin cannulas and small holes and grafted as if it were a filler on the face. The operation is always performed in a hospital environment, with local anesthesia and sedation or general, only after a complete and scrupulous clinical evaluation. Depending on the procedure, the removal will be defined”, completes Beatriz.

Recommendations for a healthy appearance

Regarding exercise and nutrition, the nutritionist recalls that the World Health Organization recommends at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week or equivalent vigorous physical activity, for all adults, which is equivalent to 30 minutes to 1 hour of physical activity 5 to 6 days a week.

“Gradually increasing the frequency, intensity, load and modality of training is ideal, in order not to risk injuries and an increase in oxidative stress, which accelerates aging,” says Marcella.

As far as diet is concerned, there aren’t many secrets, but what matters is constancy. “A balanced, varied and as natural diet as possible, with an adequate consumption of complex carbohydrates such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains and seeds, good fats, lean proteins from eggs, meat, dairy products and vegetable proteins present in legumes, daily ingesting an ideal amount of water, practicing moderate physical activity, having good sleep habits and including stress management strategies in the routine are fundamental strategies to help keep the body healthy”, concludes Marcella.
