An article authored by researchers at the National Cancer Institute (Inca), published in the journal Frontiers of Oncology earlier this year, predicts that the death rate from premature cancer in Brazil will drop by 12% among men and 4.6% among women between 2026 and 2030, compared with data between 2011 and 2015.
But we still have a lot to achieve, because, while positive, the country’s decline falls short of the goal of reducing mortality from chronic non-communicable diseases detailed in the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since in this case the numbers refer to lives, the context becomes much more delicate. All remissions, cures, and improvements in the quality of life of cancer patients are significant.
And that is what we will be dealing with in the following pages and in the special section of this issue, above all shedding light on the revolutionary advances in the cancer landscape in recent years.
