Experts indicate which substances promote blood circulation and act as anti-inflammatories for the kidneys
Consumption of healthy foods is essential to maintain the health of the body. However, despite the topic being a scientifically proven fact, there is no single diet that fits all. What is known is that prefer to eat in naturelike fruits and vegetables, it is the best medicine to prevent diseases, especially cardiovascular and kidney diseases.

“Some foods have the ability to greatly help the functioning of our body, for example by facilitating blood circulation. So it’s crucial, to avoid disease and have healthy veins and arteries, that you include them in your diet,” says vascular surgeon Dr. Aline Lamaita, member of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery.
And, according to nephrologist Dr. Caroline Reigada, the same is true for kidney disease. “We know that a diet with more fruit and vegetables is associated with a decrease in risk factors related to kidney disease. This happens because there is a greater intake of fiber and antioxidants in the diet. These nutrients help the body against inflammatory components and oxidative stress”, underlines the specialist.
Next, doctors indicate 5 foods that are important allies in maintaining cardiovascular and renal health and should be included in the diet. Watch!
1. Ginger
Ginger is a plant native to Asia, used since ancient times for the manufacture of Foods and drugs. “Several scientific studies have described the bioactive compounds in ginger; among these, the most important is gingerol, whose medicinal properties have already been demonstrated,” explains Nuutrologist Dr. Marcella Garcez, director and professor of the Brazilian Association of Nutrology.
Powerful anti-inflammatory, ginger fights muscle pain, helps against rheumatoid arthritis and circular problems. “Gingerol has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, the seasoning has an enzyme that helps dissolve fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting. Fibrin acts in the process of thrombus formation and is also linked to the hardening of varicose veins,” explains Dr. Aline Lamaita.
Because it’s good for the heart, it also benefits the kidneys, according to nephrologist Dr. Carolina Reigada. “Because it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, ginger is important for improving kidney function, repairing organ tissues, preventing inflammation around the kidneys and the formation of kidney stones,” emphasizes the nephrologist.
two. Rosemary
Used for centuries to relieve muscle pain, improve immunity and microcirculation, rosemary is rich in a substance called carnosic acid, which has an important action against free radicals. “Also, rosemary has rosmarinic acid, which detoxifies and reduces inflammation. Therefore, this spice is an important ally to increase circulation in the small vessels around the muscles and organs,” says Dr. Aline Lamaita. As it reduces inflammation and pain, it is also beneficial for the kidneys, according to Dr. Caroline Reigada.
3. Beet
Source of energy, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and detoxifying, beetroot is a tuber capable of increasing blood flow in the muscles, improving muscle contraction. “One of the substances present in beets is nitrate, which is metabolized in the body and turns into nitric oxide, which relaxes the vessels and increases blood flow. This property, according to studies, also improves circulation in the veins and prevents varicose veins,” says Dr. Aline Lamaita.
“In addition to vitamins, minerals and antioxidants such as betalain, which gives color to the beetroot, the tuber in the form of juice has among its main characteristics the elevation of serum nitric oxide levels, resulting in greater influx of blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, which makes the juice an excellent choice before the practice of physical activities,” says Dr. Marcella Garcia.
The nitrate present in the beetroot is responsible for the action of distending the vessels and improving blood flow. “Beetroot juice also helps increase levels of superoxide dismutase (a primary antioxidant enzyme) and catalase (involved in detoxification processes), reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in kidney tissue,” explains nephrologist Dr. Carolina Reigada.
4. Orange
In addition to vitamin C, the orange is also composed of folic acid, potassium, magnesium, fiber and flavonoids. “The citrate present in the orange e lemons prevents the formation of crystals in the kidneys. They can be incorporated into the diet as a form of prevention,” suggests Dr Caroline Reigada.
The doctor also explains that the orange components have an important antioxidant action and are able to reduce cholesterol. “In this case, when we eat fruit it is even better, as the fibers present in the bagasse act to prevent the deposit of fat in the arteries,” says the professional.
French researchers at the French Institute of Agricultural Research say hesperidin, a fruit flavonoid, benefits the inner lining of blood vessels. “This helps circulation. The potassium found in oranges also has a positive impact on circulation by balancing excess sodium in the diet,” says Dr. Aline Lamaita.
5. Banana
Because they are high in potassium, an essential mineral for stable heartbeat, and low in sodium, bananas help protect the cardiovascular system from changes in blood pressure and heart rate.
“The potassium in fruits and vegetables is important to prevent formation of kidney stonesalong with soccer. This is important for prevention, even for patients who have already had kidney stones. Low levels of calcium and potassium in the diet indicate a recurrence, i.e. the reappearance of the stones,” emphasizes Dr. Caroline Reigada. “In addition, this same mineral helps to avoid cramps and muscle pain,” concludes the nutritionist.
