Novice moms and dads (and even some experts) collect a number of doubts about the child. Some of them refer to breastfeeding, the main and most recommended way to feed babies in the first months of life.

With such importance, a law enacted in 2017 defined “Golden August” as a month dedicated to campaigns to encourage breastfeeding in Brazil. For the occasion, lessons, events and dissemination on social networks are intensified.

In view of this, Terra supports the campaign by answering some of the main questions on the subject. The considerations are by the obstetric nurse Karina Souza and by the nurse Olga Carpi, specialist in Breastfeeding and Counseling. Watch:

How many minutes after the baby is fed can I lay him down?

Nurse Olga reminds that the baby is usually lying down in most positions in which he nurses. So there is no specific time to put it that way. Karina adds that she is advised to leave the baby upright for at least 20 minutes after a meal to avoid reflux and regurgitation.

What is the best position for baby to sleep after breastfeeding?

“The safest position to put the baby to sleep, both during daytime naps and during the night, is on his back until he is one year old. This reduces the risk of aspiration if the baby is regurgitating, vomiting or choking “, teaches nurse Karina. The indication follows the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP).

What if the baby doesn’t burp and goes to sleep?

Experts point out that baby can, yes, regurgitate and choke on milk, which can choke him. But this is not the rule.

They draw attention to the fact that the parents – both those responsible for the child, and not only the woman, who is overworked – must be attentive and observe whether there are any signs that the child is uncomfortable or uncomfortable. If your child is calm and peaceful, there’s no reason to panic. You can let him sleep in the safe position: belly up and head to one side.

How soon after breastfeeding can you change the baby’s diaper?

“As far as diaper change is concerned, the most interesting thing is that it is done as soon as the baby wakes up, before feeding. Also to help him enter an alert, active state, to carry out all the movements of feeding”, Olga underlines .

If this is not possible, you can breastfeed and only then change the diaper. In general, this depends on the needs of the child himself. Infants, for example, tend to have more bowel movements than older children.
