“Na Praça”, which occupies the space of the first hotel in Trancoso, brings together the best of gastronomy, fashion and accommodation
The Quadrado, the most exhilarating and astral heart of Trancoso, has just gained a bucolic corner and, like everything else, very elegant. It’s about in the square, space open on July 15th. The novelty is located almost at the entrance to the Quadrado, in the right corner looking towards the sea, and occupies the grounds of the former and celebrated Hotel da Praça – the first accommodation in that part, which closed its doors in 2016.

I discovered “Quadradinho”, a nickname that I gave myself as soon as I set foot in the place, while I was looking for a shortcut to go from my inn to the Church of San Giovanni Battista. Also located in Bochicho, the space is intimate and very discreet. While in the Quadrado all eyes are turned to the church and the restaurants with live music, the in the square hides behind a wall of trees. Everything is enchanting: the stone floor, the vegetation, the lack of light and the ten houses which, I dare say, house the best shops in the country. Here, I briefly present what I found there:
Gastronomy
Handmade
With two units in North coast of Sao Paulo, In Juqueí and Baleiaand another in the city of Sao Paulo, in Moemathe bakery Handmade it occupies two corners: a café serving brunch options, pastries and, soon, Neapolitan pizzas. There is also a bakery where you can follow the production and take home bread, croissants and other delicacies, such as lavender jam with strawberries and cheese bread, small, delicious and always hot.
Trancoso pocket
From the same owners of Tasca do Zé e Maria, a famous Portuguese restaurant in the Pinheiros district of São Paulo, Trancoso pocket occupies the largest house in the square. The lounge is glamorous, filled with fabric lamps positioned at different heights – a Quadrado trademark. The wall of the bar is filled to the ceiling with bottles of Portuguese wines. The menu is similar to the “brother” in São Paulo, with slightly higher prices.
Muru
In front of Pocketor Muru Bar & Bistrot looks like an old pub. The menu saves recipes from transense, Bahian and Brazilian cultures. There’s taoiba pastry, mushroom bobó, corn croquettes and a good range of signature drinks.
Fashion and beauty
If what was missing in Trancoso was a good beauty salon, now it’s gone. OR Summer offers cutting, coloring, nail polish services and has an incredible assortment of sustainable products: shampoos, tanning creams, perfumes, make-up and scented candles.
In the center of the square, a wooden house displays mannequins with gigantic straw hats, linen shirts and dresses inspired by the shadow of the Tootles – eucalyptus wood which gives the shop its name. Already on one of the sides, the showcase of Aura does not go unnoticed: accessories for the head with a lot of glitter shine in the eyes of those who walk through the square. The shop also sells clothes, hats and jewellery.
A Domuiwhich already has a very charming unit Caraíva, sells decorative items with a Zara Home twist. A Fog is a gallery that sells paintings and photographs.
accommodation
Yes, you can stay at “Quadradinho”. Extremely exclusive and uncluttered, the Hotel Na Praça has just six rooms: five for couples and one for three guests. In a rustic chic style, the furniture follows the excellent good taste of the other neighbors. Breakfast, already included in the rate (from R$ 950), is served at Handmade.
