The ministries of justice and tourism announced this Saturday 19 that they will investigate the company 123 miles for the cancellation of packages and the issuance of PROMO promotional line tickets for the period from September to December. The company’s decision, classified as “serious” by Tourism, was announced this Friday 18 and, as underlined by the government, will concern trips already contracted for the “Promo” line, with flexible dates, with departures scheduled from September to December 2023.
On Friday, the company said it will refund in full the amounts paid by customers, with a monetary correction above inflation, who bought tickets, hotels and travel packages. “Due to ongoing adverse market circumstances beyond our control, the PROMO line has been temporarily suspended and we will not be issuing scheduled shipment tickets from September to December 2023,” the agency said.
Orlando and Miami are among the most hated cities in the United States
The calculation should be carried out by the National Secretariat of Consumers (Senacon), which reports to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. For tourism, it is necessary to clarify the reasons for cancellations, identify all affected persons and promote the repair of damages to all affected customers.
“The Ministry of Tourism has already contacted the Ministry of Justice and Public Security so that, through the National Secretariat of Consumers (Senacon), it evaluates the establishment of an investigative procedure that clarifies the reasons for these cancellations, identifies all the persons concerned and promote the reparation of damages to all damaged customers,” the Ministry of Tourism, chaired by Celso Sabino (UniĂŁo-PA), said in a statement.
A Senator informed that, depending on the company’s information, it could open an administrative proceeding which may result in a fine. He also said that consumers who feel offended will be able to register on the consumer.gov.br platform.
The Ministry of Tourism also declared that both ministries are “engaged in the search for mechanisms that prevent the recurrence of similar situations and in the responsibility of companies which, perhaps, have acted in bad faith”. “The MTur and MJSP will closely follow the progress of the investigations and will keep all people and sectors involved informed,” he concluded.
According to 123 Milhas, tickets that have already been issued, which have a locator or an electronic ticket, are kept. Promo line orders not yet issued, with shipments scheduled for the months of September, October, November and December 2023, will be cancelled. “In this case, we are refunding the amounts paid by customers in full,” the company says.
Sought after by email this Saturday, the company responded by saying “at the moment we give priority to the placement of 123 Milhas”, referring to the measures announced yesterday.
Compensation measures
OR St. Paul Procon it also said it will notify 123 Milhas on Monday the 21st. The consumer protection agency said it will question the company about the reasons for the suspension. He also wants to know how the agency has prepared for this situation, how it is informing its clients, and what mitigation or compensation measures are in place so as not to harm consumers.
