6 small attitudes to make your home more sustainable

Simple habits, such as lighting designed to save money, fighting water waste and separate waste collection, among others, benefit the planet

Thinking about the sustainability of the home is increasingly essential for the future of the planet. In Brazil, regular waste collection reaches 91% of municipalities, while separate waste collection occurs in only 21% of cities, often only in one neighborhood served by this service, according to data generated by Eureciclo at the request of the Veja brand.

It is known that separate waste collection depends on infrastructure, on investments by municipalities, and on the awareness and action of the population. So, in addition to sorting waste, people can take other sustainable actions at home that, in addition to taking care of waste, can also make a difference.

The teacher Marco Nakagawaspecialist in Socio-Environmental Development and author of the book “101 Days with More Sustainable Actions”, indicates six attitudes for the organization and cleaning platform Cada Casa Um Caso, of Reckitt. It reveals what habits we can adopt at home to help the environment and save money at the same time. Watch:

Think better about lighting, taking advantage of natural light and using LED lamps in the rooms. A good alternative is to install skylights and “glass roofs”, those that let light through and opt for large windows, which have a large glass surface.

Certified household appliances

Project by Marcela Martins.

Choose cheaper appliances, paying attention to the energy consumption classification bars indicated by Inmetro. Just pay attention to the energy efficiency label when choosing electronics. Therefore, the closer you get to the letter “A” and the further you move away from the letter “G”, the lower the consumption of this type of device will be.

Check water usage

-

Consume water consciously, place aerators on taps and capture resources that can be reused, like a washing machine. You can place a aerator on the tapsthus saving the entire flow of water and also reusing the cold water at the beginning of the shower in a bucket to be used, for example, as a toilet flush or to wash the car or the yard.

Save water

-

Clean your home using more sustainable methods. Avoid using the hose to pour water on the floor and prefer to use a bucket or even a mop. A dry wash It is a great choice for those looking for sustainable solutions for their daily life.

Use presence sensors in the light

Project by Hanna Cabral and Monique Pampolha for CASACOR Rio de Janeiro.

Save energy by using occupancy sensors. I’m sure you already forgot the light was on! No matter how much attention we pay, this can happen. With the presence sensor it is impossible to forget that the lamp is on, since they will only turn on when they detect presence. It is ideal for corridors and outdoor areas of the house.

Use the three “mistakes”

-

Have you ever heard of the three mistakes of sustainability? These are attitudes that, taken on a daily basis, will contribute to preserving the planet and the national economy.
