Togo tells the story of Leonard Seppala and his sled dogs on a perilous journey in search of an antitoxin to stop a diphtheria epidemic in their town.
Diphtheria reached the town of Nome in Alaska, and Seppala and his dogs went to get the cure, because otherwise there was no way to get it. More than 150 dogs took part in the expedition, many of which froze to death. From Togo, Seppala overcame the most difficult part of the road, but all the glory went to another dog – Balto, because it was he who walked the last kilometers and delivered his owner and his antitoxin to Nomo.
The movie Jungle is based on the true story of Israeli traveler Yossi Ginsberg and his book Lost in the Jungle. A true heartbreaking story of adventure and survival.”
This story is one of those of which we say “it only happens in the movies”. A group of friends venture into the dense jungles of Bolivia in search of exoticism. It all starts out pretty carefree, but at some point the guide disappears and the friends come face to face with the wildlife. They decide to separate and Yossi finds himself alone in the jungle for weeks. What happens to a starving, injured and emaciated person who has almost no chance of survival is clearly demonstrated by Daniel Radcliffe on screen.
Christopher McCandless / Emile Hirsch in Into the Wild
A biopic about Christopher McCandless hitchhiking in Alaska.
After graduating from college, Christopher McCandless leaves behind all his possessions, donates the $24,000 he accumulated while in college to a charitable foundation, and hitchhikes to Alaska. Once there, he boards an abandoned bus and writes a highly controversial manifesto about “the decisive battle in which the false being must die and the spiritual revolution be accomplished”. McCandless is the kind of American jerk who is revered by many for his dedication to ideals, but at the same time, roughly the same number of people dislike him for his passion for self-destruction.
Cheryl Strijd / Reese Witherspoon in “Wild”
Film adaptation of the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed. A Dangerous Journey as a Way to Find Yourself” in which she talks about her solo backpacking journey.
Strijd covered approximately 1,800 kilometers in 94 days. This trip was supposed to help him deal with the grief of losing his mother, as well as to stop taking drugs. But the hike is not as romantic as it sounds, so the heroine had to focus on solving the problems to be solved, and she also understood that if your shoe fell off a cliff, the store would send you a new pair. But seriously, the hike in the Sierra Nevada was of course healing, but definitely not easy.
The Revenant is a revenge story based on a novel about the life of an American hunter in the 19th century.
The film, of course, has embellished Glass’ adventures, but there is truth in the fairy tale: he really traveled about four hundred kilometers, being seriously injured. The bear attack is also true. But in the film, the hero is obsessed with revenge, while the real Glass, judging by some evidence, may well forgive those who left him in this desert, in the end he was mortally wounded.
Heinrich Harrer / Brad Pitt in “Seven Years in Tibet”
Seven Years in Tibet (1997) is a film based on the story of Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer, who lived in Tibet from 1939 to 1951.
Heinrich Harrer is a Reich officer who leaves his pregnant wife at home and sets out to conquer the most impregnable peak in the Himalayas to perpetuate his name. However, the “victorious little war” did not work; long wanderings, mortal danger and even captivity awaited him. But in the end, he meets the Dalai Lama and spends seven years in Lhasa. Clearly, for Harrer, it was an experience that changed everything. He wrote more than twenty books on his adventures, directed about forty documentaries and founded the Tibet Museum in Austria.
Tami Ashcraft / Shailene Woodley in “At the Mercy of the Elements”
The film “In the grip of the elements” tells the story of the survival of Tami Oldham, who tried to escape after a terrible hurricane.
In 1983, Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp embarked on a 4,000 mile journey to bring the Hazana from Tahiti to San Diego. The transition was to take 30 days. But the sailboat did not arrive in time in San Diego. Tami and Richard were considered missing in the ocean and the yacht was sunk. In fact, they fell in Hurricane Raymond and suffered a serious accident.
Tami had experience in sailing, but a hurricane damaged their yacht and she herself was unconscious for 27 hours. When she regained consciousness, she had to repair a sinking ship, create an improvised sail, and then, relying only on a watch and a sextant, get to the nearest coast.
