Produced by journalist Renata Veneri; The project also includes a podcast and a photography exhibition on scars
Encouraging organ donation is a year-round agenda. This is what journalist Renata Veneri, director of the documentary “Scars – The donation movement”, thinks.
“The project is timeless. Organ donation must take place every day, always, not just in a month or a day”, claims Renata in an interview with Earth.
The film features 10 characters and their stories about organ transplants. One of them is photographer Antônio Carlos Mafalda, who received a new liver in 2014. For now, the film is only available on Box Brazil Play and ClaroTV+, but will soon arrive on other platforms.

“Our goal is to talk about organ donation as life! It is to show that there is a lot of life to be achieved after a transplant, but that it is only possible if someone donates (in life or after death)”, underlines the journalist.
All the Scars Project It also includes a podcast, conversation clubs and a traveling photography exhibition. The images are recorded by Mafalda.

How to be an organ donor
There are five organs that can be donated: heart, pancreas, lung, liver and kidney. In the national system, intestinal, multivisceral (exchange of multiple abdominal organs), cornea and bone marrow transplants are also performed.
To donate any organ the first thing to do is to notify the family. This is because in Brazil the donation of organs and tissues of deceased people is carried out only with the consent of the family, so it is up to the relatives to grant or deny this approval.
In the case of a living donor, who can donate a kidney, part of the liver, marrow or a lung, the Brazilian system allows the donation to be made to family members. When the donor and recipient are not related, judicial authorization is required to avoid conflicts of interest or coercion.
