The expert lists foods that help you sleep well and, therefore, can help you in the weight loss process
Sleeping well brings numerous health benefits, such as strengthening the immune system and reducing stress. And yes, on top of all this, adequate sleep can help you lose weight! This is because it will enhance the effects of a healthy routine, with a balanced diet and lots of exercise.
According to a study published by the scientific journal Journal of Pineal Research, a deficiency of melatonin (a hormone produced by the body to regulate sleep) can decrease metabolism, generate insulin resistance and increase appetite. In other words, sleeping well still prevents these things from happening and causing weight gain.
Of course, this measure alone will not be effective in losing weight, but not sleeping well can sabotage the process. Therefore, getting a good night’s sleep should be a goal, both for those who want to lose weight and for those who simply want to maintain good health.
And did you know that some foods can help you have more restful sleep and, consequently, have all these benefits? So it is! Below, nutritionist Aline Huguenin, from Grupo Prontobaby, lists some of them:
Foods for sleeping well
Milk and derivatives: sources of tryptophan, calcium and magnesium, promote the production of the so-called “sleep hormones”: serotonin and melatonin.
Cherry, banana and kiwi: They also promote the synthesis of melatonin, as well as having vitamins and minerals.
Chickpeas: source of tryptophan and vitamins, which act in the production of neurotransmitter hormones linked to well-being and better sleep quality.
Chamomile: It has a relaxing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect, being a good sleep inducer. It also helps reduce stress and anxiety.
Honey: It has antioxidant properties, as well as facilitating the production of serotonin.
Other tips for sleeping well
In addition to food, there are other measures that can help you sleep well. Avoiding drinking liquids before going to bed and keeping the bedroom a very comfortable place, for example, are good advice in this regard.
However, perhaps the most important thing that few people do is avoid screens for a while before bed. This way the body will understand that it is time to rest.
