Could this be the end of the “new normal”?
As well announced by the platform of the Portuguese daily Observador, “the ‘new normal’ is over, the old normal is back”. After two years of pandemic and great expectations of what this return would be like, the first major music festival took place last weekend in Porto and it was as usual: lots of crowds, lots of queues, zero (or almost) masks.
The new? NOS Primavera Sound, a version of the famous Barcelona festival, broke all capacity records in its ninth version in Portugal: in three days, more than 100,000 people gathered at Parque da Cidade to see more than 50 international attractions on six stages and main spaces. About 60% of the public, according to the organization, was foreign.
On day one, Nick Cave, Cigarettes After Sex, Tame Impala and Black Coffee had (my) party. But there were still Gorillaz, Pavement, Pabllo Vittar …
This year’s festival schedule is back with a vengeance to calm pent-up demand. By August at least five promise:
* Rock in Rio Lisboa, 18 and 19, 25 and 26 June, with Muse, Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran, A-HA, Post Malone, Anitta and, of course, Ivete Sangalo;
* NOS Alive, Lisbon, from 6 to 9 July, with The Strokes, Florence + The Machine, Metallica and Da Weasel;
* Super Bock Super Rock, Meco (Sesimbra), from 14 to 16 July, with A $ AP Rocky, Dababy, Hot Chip, Foals;
* Vodafone Paredes de Coura, August 16-20, with Pixies and Beach House;
* EDP Vilar de Mouros, from 25 to 27 August, with Iggy Pop, Bauhaus, Suede and The Legendary Tigerman.
