Does Creatine Cause Kidney Problems? The study analyzes the effects

Another study that served to dispel the myths about the consumption of this supplement

Creatine comes from the Greek κρέας which means meat, that is, it is the substance responsible for providing energy to the muscles. And it influences the improvement of physical performance and also the increase in muscle mass. Likewise, its consumption still raises questions, especially for those who have never tried it, for example: does creatine cause kidney problems?

Creatine does not cause kidney problems

This study, conducted by researchers from FEPI (Fundação de Ensino e Pesquisa de Itajubá), Centro Universitário de Itajubá and Unimep (Methodist University of Piracicaba), stated that it is the first experience of systematic review and meta-analysis, whose objective it was to study creatine supplements and their possible side effects on kidney function.

Also because scientists have argued that although creatine supplements aim to improve performance, there is evidence that they overload liver and kidney functions. Reduction in quality of life and increase in mortality.

The result showed that creatine supplementation was not related to kidney damage in the quantities and duration studied. The group of scholars confessed that, to reach this conclusion, it was necessary to investigate 290 non-duplicated studies.

The expert’s point of view

“If you intend to use creatine to optimize training performance, there is no reason to fear damage to the body. We recommend taking 3g per day before or after training. In addition to creatine supplementation, we recommend good water. Rest from the body, sleep regularly and avoid alcoholic beverages for better results,” he said in an exclusive interview with Sport Life doctor and professor of Modern Nutrition Jionocley Viana.
