5 Best Houseplants for Hanging Planters: Expert Review

Can’t fit a new flower on the windowsill? There is an exit!

“Plants in hanging pots look very impressive, attract attention, visually raise ceilings and decorate hard-to-reach places,” says Alik Burnett, general director of an online store selling indoor plants. Which flowers, according to experts, are the most spectacular and at the same time unpretentious?

Golden epipremnum

There are many varieties of ivy, but professional horticulturist Erinn Witz recommends paying attention to Epipremnum aureus. “It perfectly balances the qualities a beginner needs: it has an interesting appearance thanks to its variegated foliage, is easy to care for and grows quickly,” explains the expert. And houseplant nursery owner Alex Kantor adds that epipremnum is also a great air purifier.

Godson Rowley

Rowley Ragwort or Curio Rowley is a unique houseplant. “The long stems of this succulent, dotted with spherical leaves, resemble strings of pearls,” says professional horticulturist Gene Caballero. According to plant physiologist Victoria Kuchinskaya, ragwort’s small white flowers, which usually appear in spring, can fill your home with the scent of cinnamon. But be careful if you have young children or pets: Rowley ragwort is toxic.

Chlorophytum

This flower with beautiful long leaves is included in the list of plants that best purify the air, established by NASA based on the results of laboratory experiments. “Chlorophytum is also known for its simplicity and ability to adapt to different conditions and is therefore suitable for a wide range of rooms,” adds Caballero.

Monstera Adanson

The “Swiss cheese plant” is also called Monstera Adanson for its unusual heart-shaped leaves, in which neat holes appear as it grows. This plant is unpretentious and requires regular watering and pruning to maintain the desired size.

Philodendron mycans

Philodendron micans is ideal for hanging pots due to its trailing habit. “Its leaves are beautiful: they have a soft, velvety surface and the color is a subtle balance of green and soft burgundy,” says Witz. Philodendron does not require special care – it needs diffused sun and moderate watering.
