The nutritionist warns about the impacts that an inadequate diet can have on the body. Find out how to prevent prostate cancer
Blue November was initially created with the aim of encouraging prostate cancer prevention and awareness. However, the campaign also began to encourage general changes in men’s attitudes towards health. According to research by the Brazilian Society of Urology (SBU), between 2016 and 2020 healthcare increased by 49.96%. However, men lag far behind women in this regard.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Brazilian men, after skin cancer, as highlighted by the National Cancer Institute (INCA). Therefore, early diagnosis is the most effective way to prevent the number of deaths from increasing. This rate currently represents approximately 6% of cases.
Therefore, it is essential to maintain regular medical monitoring and, in addition, adopt a healthy diet, which can help prevent this type of cancer and other diseases. The nutritionist Giovanna Ribeiro raised the alarm. The specialist explains that eating well is one of the main ways to prevent the appearance of cancer.
Diet and prostate cancer prevention
«Excessive consumption of foods rich in trans and saturated fats and low in fiber can contribute, over time, to the formation of tumors. As well as the intake of red meat, which, in excess, especially if accompanied by a low consumption of fruit, vegetables and whole grains, can also be associated with the appearance of tumors”, warns the nutritionist.
Giovanna emphasizes that healthy eating and disease prevention go hand in hand. According to the National Cancer Institute of the United States, for the consumption of fruit and vegetables to generate a protective effect on the body, it is necessary to consume 5 portions per day. “In other words, to take care of your health, it is important to maintain a balanced diet, rich in natural or minimally processed foods, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, lean meats and greens,” she recommends.
But it’s not just food that makes the difference in preventing prostate cancer. “To complete this equation, regular physical exercise is essential. The habit maintains the functioning of the organism, guarantees hormonal regulation and thus prevents damage to health”, he concludes.
