Ghanaian Raphael Dwamena died this Saturday, the 11th, after falling ill during a football match; the athlete had a history of heart problems




The Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena, 28 years old, died this Saturday, aged 11, after collapsing during an Albanian championship match. The athlete was rescued, but did not survive and died while being transported to hospital. According to the international press, he had heart problems in the past.

The striker felt ill and collapsed on the pitch in the 24th minute of the match between Egnazia and PartizanI. In the video circulating on social media you can see other players trying to help Dwamena and the moment the ambulance approaches.

“The Ghana Football Federation mourns the death of our player Raphael Dwamena and wishes his family our deepest condolences in this difficult time,” the Albanian Football Federation said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.

The Ghanaian began his international football career in Austria, spent time in Switzerland and Spain. In 2017 he aroused the interest of Brighton, Premier League team. But the club detected a cardiac arrhythmia Raphael Dwamena and did not sign the attacker.

In 2021, Raphael Dwamena also fell ill during a match of his then team, the Austrian club Blau-Weiß Linz.

The Brazilian coach of the Albanian team, Sylvinho, also mourned the athlete’s death: “Rest in peace. Condolences to his family and friends”.
