These strips of sand are close together, but they also don’t seem to be separated by just a river.
At the northern end of the coast of Bahia, 220 km from Salvador, lies Mangue Seco, a destination that lives in the shadow of coconut palms and Tieta, Jorge Amado’s character who made the region famous.
Across the Rio Real, Praia do Saco is the isolated southern coast version of Sergipe, 74km from the capital Aracaju. It is simpler, but with the naturalistic attractions most sought after by those who visit the region.
Whatever your first stop, the scenery will be characterized by sandy roads, dunes for walking and practically deserted beaches.

The journey begins in Atracadouro Porto do Cavalo, in the municipality of Estância (SE), 74 km from Aracaju, and continues in calm navigation along the Real river to the simple access pier in Mangue Seco.
This village in the city of Jandaíra, on the Costa dos Coqueiros, has almost 30 km of beaches and around 200 inhabitants. So you can already get an idea of the exclusivity of this, the last beach on the northern end of the Bahia coast.
There it is possible to take boat trips on the Rio Real, whose salty waters welcome small boats that stop at attractions such as Ilha da Sogra, in nearby Sergipe.
Mangue Seco can also be explored by buggy, on dune routes and with stops at the Morro do Caju, the highest dune in the country, and at the scenic pair of coconut trees Romeu and Julieta.
Saco Beach
(Sergipe)
Hand in hand with nearby Mangue Seco, 74 km from Aracaju, in the municipality of Estância, tourism continues unhurriedly on what is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the state, where six rivers flow into the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the highlights is Ilha da Sogra, a 1 km long temporary sandbank, between the river and the sea. According to local legend, the island got its name because a resident would “forget” her mother-in-law on this sandbar to go to town to solve problems.

HOW TO GET
The shortest route is via Aracaju, from where the traveler continues to Porto do Mato and from there takes a speedboat to Mangue Seco.
Another option is to follow the Linha Verde, towards Salvador, up to the Costa Azul beach, already in Bahian territory. However, this route is tide dependent and requires crossing in a 4×4 car.
