Tractor rides are an unusual attraction in the capital of Sao Paulo; know how to do it

The tour takes place in a family-friendly location, Parelheiros; the tour lasts about an hour and arrives at the shores of Billings

While Brazil’s nerve center trembles not far from the Bllings Dam, a 75-horsepower red tractor calmly passes through plantations of cassava, ginger and peanuts in the capital of Sao Paulo.

In this sort of microworld, alien to the chaos of the city, São Paulo continues at a different pace.

Located in Parelheiros, in the far south of the capital São Paulo, the The Roça Park It is a family-run farm, known for its tractor rides through the plantations of this 14-hectare property.

“People like driving the tractor because it’s something different. People only see it on television, on Globo Rural, they don’t see it live,” explains Joaquim dos Santos, the farmer responsible for the tour.

It all started as a game to entertain the children of Joaquim’s “his” family. Soon the adults arrived, “who like it more than the children”. Then came one of the most unusual tourist experiences in the capital of Sao Paulo.

The tour lasts approximately one hour and continues to the shores of Billings, one of the major bodies of water in the St. Paul metropolitan region. Back at the Roça Park headquarters, there is still time to taste the organic products during the lunches offered on site and take short trails or carriage rides.

“The tourists are amazed and are in no hurry to leave. It’s as if they came here to renew their energy with nature,” describes Patricia Garcia dos Santos, entrepreneur and Joaquim’s daughter.

This site, open to the public in 2021, is one of the attractions of the Sao Paulo Ecotourism Center, a project that promotes ecotourism and environmental preservation not only in Parelheiros, but also in Marsilac and the island of Bororé.

“[O Polo de Ecoturismo] It is a movement created to develop activities that generate employment and income for the local population, as well as the preservation and sustainability of the place”, explains Solange Dias, president of the Parelheiros Entrepreneurs’ Association and member of the Polo’s board of directors.

Roça Park, for example, is one of approximately 427 agricultural production sites in the region, according to a survey released by SMUL (Municipal Secretariat for Urban Planning and Licensing).
