The CCJ also voted in favor of paying homage to the nation’s historical figures

The Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of House of Representatives approved on Thursday the 23rd the bill that recognizes the June bands as a cultural manifestation and intangible heritage of Brazil. Author of the deputy Ruy Carneiro (Podemos-PB), the proposal received the favorable opinion of the deputy rapporteur Ricardo Ayres (Republicans-TO).

In justifying the proposal, the author addresses the cultural and collective value of this dance, especially for the population of the north-east. He also underlines the economic contribution of the event to the population. “Square dance competitions enliven the entire month of June and July in the Northeast and generate employment and income, through costumes, dancers and others who, indirectly, benefit from them” we read in the text.

Now the project will be sent to the Senate for analysis, because it is conclusive, that is, it does not need to pass through the House to be approved, unless there is an appeal that requires it.

In addition to this project, the commission also approved proposals that pay homage to Brazilian historical figures. The first of these is the recognition of the educator Anísio Teixeira as the Patron of Brazilian Public Education.

Another proposal is to inscribe the name of the Black Lancers in the Book of Heroes and Heroines of the Homeland. The book is deposited in the Pantheon of the Homeland and Freedom Tancredo Neves, in Brasilia. The Black Lancers were part of the Farrapo Republican Army and played an important role in the Farroupilha Revolution, a war between Rio Grande do Sul and the Brazilian Empire that took place from 1835 to 1845.

The CCJ also approved the registration of Lauro Nina Sodré e Silva del Pará in the Book of Heroes and Heroines of the Homeland. He was Benjamin Constant’s secretary at the Ministry of War during the First Republic, in 1889, and opposed the dissolution of the National Congress wanted by Deodoro da Fonseca, in 1891. Signed by senator Confúcio Moura (MDB/RO), the proposal was also accepted favorable opinion of the rapporteur, deputy Laura Carneiro.

The latter two projects have already been analyzed in the Senate. Having been conclusively processed, the two can proceed to presidential sanction.
