The dermatologist points out that some people may suffer from excessive sweating. In these cases the doctor recommends less invasive solutions than surgery.
The disease known as hyperhidrosis is characterized by the production of excessive sweat which appears in quantities greater than the physiological one. This condition can occur due to the hyperactivity of the sweat glands and has given no respite to those who suffer on the hottest days.
The doctor Dr. Filippo Gasparinidermatologist at the Clínica Adriana Vilarinho and member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), explains that people suffering from hyperhidrosis can produce up to five times more sweat than normally necessary.
“Some people may suffer from excessive sweating due to an illness or medication – it is called secondary hyperhidrosis or in specific situations of fear, nervousness or increased stress”explains.
For the dermatologist, in any case, both situations are rather uncomfortable and the impacts go beyond physical health and can influence the emotional side, social and even professional life. But there is a solution, and the best part is that there are several options that do not require surgery, as surgery can have a rebound effect, such as triggering compensatory sweating.
“Excess sweat can be offset in another region of the body and so, while it fixes one area of the body, it can end up affecting another, but there is a way to fix it”He states.
How to treat excessive sweating without surgery?
Supported by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), there are well-suited treatments for hyperhidrosis that are easier to treat and resolve the problem, which can vary between some options.
“One of these is topical treatments, which are methenamine-based ointments (a combination of antibacterial antiseptics) and antiperspirants containing up to 20% aluminum hydrochloride or medications. If this excessive sweat is concentrated in the feet and hands, it is It is still possible to apply electric currents in these regions using electrodes”explains the doctor.
Dr. Felipe also states that in case of hyperhidrosis of the palms or feet, excessive sweating of the scalp or armpits, the application of botulinum toxin is an excellent solution, since the toxin inhibits the release of neurotransmitters, preventing the communication between. the brain and the sweat glands, which no longer receive orders to produce sweat and therefore reduce perspiration.
The doctor also reiterates that the treatment of excessive sweating is defined only by the dermatologist, through a careful evaluation not only of the patient’s clinical conditions and medical history, but also of the cause of hyperhidrosis.
