End-of-year loneliness: 5 tips for dealing with sadness in the elderly
In August this year, the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved the opinion of the federal deputy Clodoaldo Magalhães (PV-PE), which foresees the National Panic Syndrome Awareness Week, which will be held every year, during the third week of June.
The creation of the awareness week includes several activities aimed at orienting the population and healthcare professionals on panic disorder, encouraging the population to seek knowledge about the disease, its causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment, as well as fighting for fight the disease. of people suffering from the disorder.
Psychologist and professor Jair Soares, of the Brazilian Institute of Therapist Training (IBFT), underlines the importance of the awareness week, especially so that the population can understand the differences and not confuse panic syndrome with anxiety disorder, which can lead the patient to seek help in ways that have little or no effectiveness.
Even though it is a condition that affects more than 25% of Brazilians, the specialist explains that “anxiety disorder is characterized by persistent and excessive worries, especially in relation to future events, which are almost always accompanied by symptoms such as restlessness , muscle tension and irritability. Panic syndrome involves the appearance of recurrent and unexpected panic attacks. These are intense episodes of anxiety that reach their peak within a few minutes,” he explains.
Painful conditions
For Jair, creator of the technique known as TRG (Generative Reprocessing Therapy), which aims to treat emotional problems at the root and as quickly as possible, although both conditions are extremely painful for those who suffer from them, Panic syndrome tends to cause many more damage, especially in the patient’s social life.
“Panic attacks occur unexpectedly, without any apparent cause. They are accompanied by physical symptoms such as sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath and perhaps the most dangerous of symptoms: the overwhelming false feeling of imminent danger, of persecution,” he warns.
The causes of this disorder have not yet been fully clarified, however it is known that they can be part of emotional syndromes such as depression and anxiety, regardless of whether or not there is a known trigger factor. These people may have a more sensitive nervous system in responding to fear, and the episodes may be associated with significant transitions that occur throughout life. Panic itself is a symptom and every symptom has a cause and this cause must be eliminated.
Professor Jair Soares, a specialist in highly complex cases, recognized for techniques that aim to treat emotional problems as quickly as possible, highlights some actions that can be taken by patients suffering from panic, to alleviate the symptoms during crises. :
“First and not least is to recognize that you need professional help. TRG is the most definitive way to achieve this. It works with the aim of reworking the emotional causes that lead this person to manifest panic in their daily life. Once these emotions are eliminated, the panic attack ceases to exist. In each session, with the help of powerful mechanisms that take care of emotions and eliminate symptoms, the individual restores his emotional health,” adds the specialist.
Jair Soares also provides some tips on how to relieve panic attacks. For the specialist, recognizing that we are entering a crisis is one of the fundamental points for getting out of it.
“You must be rational. Stop and talk to yourself, saying that you are in control of the situation. Maintain a firm posture, no position of fear or coercion. Puff out your chest and maintain a posture of confidence. Breathe calmly, inhale through your nose deeply and exhale slowly through your mouth, always repeating to yourself that it is just a crisis, but that you are in control of the situation”, advises the psychologist.
