Large hotels often have amazing Christmas trees. OR Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro, in collaboration with Nespresso to create a different and sustainable tree. With the aim of raising awareness of the importance of recycling and reuse of materialsthe brand created a Christmas tree decorated with reused coffee capsules.

The tree, which has a diameter of 1.80 m and a height of 2.50 m, is used almost in its decoration 600 capsuleswhich alternate between the Original and Vertuo lines, which replace the Christmas baubles and adorn the LED string.




“At Grand Hyatt Rio we want to celebrate all the magic of Christmas by bringing together elements that are important to us. We are committed to carrying out sustainability actions not only within the hotel, but also in our community. Therefore, we could not leave the proposal of our Christmas decoration, which brings authenticity and care, as well as hope and optimism for the future by using recycled materials to delight our guests”, explained Alexandra Bueno, general manager of the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro.

At Nespresso, all capsules collected via collection points, reverse logistics or postal service are sent to the company’s recycling center, where the coffee grounds and aluminum are separated mechanically, without using water in the process. While the coffee grounds are destined for the Nespresso Hortas project, which uses organic waste as fertilizer to grow organic food in a regenerative way.
