Why the Platinum Anniversary of Elizabeth II’s Reign Marks the End of an Era and What Changes Await the British Throne

During the seven decades of her reign, everything happened in the life of Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. She won and lost, punished and pardoned, but nevertheless, with truly royal composure, she led the country through many historical events. It’s hard to imagine Her Majesty’s reign coming to an end – the vast majority of us can’t remember another monarch at the helm of Britain. What will happen when the queen ceases to be queen? But it will inevitably happen, and, apparently, quite soon.

There were centenarians in the Windsor family – Queen Mother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, to the delight of the British people, lived 101 years. However, it is already obvious now – God grants health and many years to Her Majesty, but she will not celebrate the 80th anniversary of her reign on the throne. Great changes are imminent in the monarchy of the United Kingdom. Experts are sure that we will learn about it soon after the end of the national festivities.

“It will be the last major occasion to publicly celebrate and thank the Queen,” said royal historian Hugo Wickens. “It was an incredible golden age of royalty, so I think these few days of celebration are very important. Everyone should honor Elizabeth II.”

Her Majesty, aged 96, does not hide that she has gone badly: she was paralyzed by the death of her beloved husband, Prince Philip Mountbatten, and the consequences of the coronavirus. The Queen has mobility problems, she cancels many meetings and this year, for the third time in her entire reign, she did not come to the opening session of Parliament.

In recent months, Elizabeth II has increasingly entrusted her duties to her son Prince Charles and her grandson Prince William, as if she were preparing not only herself, but also the people of Great Britain to changes. However, the palace denies the information that the decision to appoint Charles as regent has already been made and his ascension to the throne is being prepared. Separately, insiders close to Buckingham claim that the firstborn of Elizabeth II, who has been waiting for the throne for too long, has serious intentions of giving way to her eldest son. Perhaps these changes will occur as early as 2022.

Headlines about Prince Andrew’s inappropriate behavior and the Dukes of Sussex’s enrichment ideas continue to appear in media around the world, but the Queen appears to be very specific and unambiguous in setting priorities.
