With recognition of leading sustainability assessment tools, the company is at the forefront of social, environmental and governance transformations in the Brazilian healthcare sector

Rede D’Or, the largest private healthcare company in Latin America, published its first Sustainability Report in 2015. Verified since 2020 by a third party, it follows the guidelines of the main global sustainability reporting standards, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

Since then, the company has led sustainable healthcare operations, with initiatives that improve resource efficiency at 73 hospitals and 54 oncology clinics across the country. Discover below the accomplishments and results that allow Rede D’Or to have a more sustainable operation each year.

Award-winning environmental management

Signatory to the United Nations (UN) Global Compact since 2020, Rede D’Or has joined the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Today the company is committed to achieving milestones in eight of the 17 priority objectives. Among these, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; o SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production; and SDG 13 – Action against global climate change. Among the socio-environmental objectives to be achieved by 2030 established by Rede D’Or’s ESG Strategic Planning (approved by the Board of Directors in September 2022), include a 36% reduction in relative greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

By implementing the Energy Efficiency Program in its units, the company has optimized the entire air conditioning system with the automation of chilled water systems (CAG). Therefore, by 2024, the annual electricity consumption in the units participating in the project will have to be reduced by at least 10%.

With the aim of having 74 business units operating with renewable energy sources by 2025, Rede D’Or began joining the Free Energy Market (MLE) in 2019. As of September 2023, the group already had 66 units of consumption (located in 61 hospitals and medical centers) operating in the MLE.

The company also invests in a water efficiency program. By capturing rainwater and reusing condensation water from refrigeration (among other strategies), water consumption in all units participating in the project will be reduced by 10% by 2024. In the area of ​​waste management, l The global goal is to have a recyclable waste rate of 30% by 2030.

Many efforts have obtained national and international awards and recognition: Best of ESG by Exame magazine; MSCI ESG Ratings; Best Performing Epimed Solutions in 2022; grade “B” by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global organization that evaluates environmental impacts on companies.

For the second consecutive year, Rede D’Or also received the gold seal of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program (PBGHGP), the highest level of qualification for greenhouse gas inventories, established by the Kyoto Protocol.

Excellence in governance

In 2020, with the initial public offering of shares (IPO), Rede D’Or joined the Novo Mercado, a select group of publicly traded companies with the highest level of corporate governance on the Brazilian Stock Exchange. This means that, voluntarily, Rede D’Or has chosen to adhere to the rigorous governance practices suggested by B3, which include the presence of 20% independent directors on the Board of Directors, compliance requirements and implementation of internal controls.

One year after going public, in recognition of its sustainable management model, the company was selected to join the 2023 portfolio of B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE), the main sustainability indicator of Brazilian companies listed in Bag.

Successful partnerships

In the social pillar, Rede D’Or is at the forefront of important inclusion projects, such as the partnership with Instituto Proa, which offers professional development opportunities to more than 900 young people from public schools across the country. one of the largest Brazilian donors during the Covid-19 pandemic, spending more than R$300 million for the construction of field hospitals and support for the Unified Health System (SUS).

The result of a partnership between Rede D’Or and the state government of Rio de Janeiro, the D’Or Public Health Institute is responsible for the management of the Estadual da Criança (HEC) Hospital in the west of Rio. A point of reference in highly complex pediatric care in orthopedics, transplants and oncology care, the hospital has performed more than 200,000 outpatient visits, approximately 48,000 surgeries and more than 250 transplants on children and adolescents aged between zero and 19 years. HEC is one of three Brazilian hospitals that perform kidney transplants in children weighing less than 15 kilos and the only public hospital in Rio de Janeiro with ONA level 3 certification.
