A delay in the menstrual cycle is the warning sign that most attracts women’s attention. Find out what the symptoms of pregnancy are
Has your period arrived late and you have doubts about a possible pregnancy? Generally, one of the first symptoms of pregnancy is a delayed menstrual cycle, but there are many other warnings given off by the body that can indicate fertilization of the egg. Overall, it’s important to know your body and get a test done to make sure what’s really going on.
Is a late period always a sign of pregnancy?
No. After all, the list of possible causes of missed periods is long. The gynecologist at the Edmundo Vasconcelos Hospital, Luana Ariadne Ferreira Zanchetta Souza, highlights the main reasons that can cause your period to arrive a few days later:
- Hormonal imbalances due to irregular use of oral contraceptives or the morning-after pill;
- Emotional situations, such as stress and anxiety;
- Sudden changes in weight;
- Excessive physical activity;
- Effects of polycystic ovary syndrome;
- Infectious conditions.
So what are the symptoms of pregnancy?
Some women can go through their entire pregnancy without experiencing symptoms. But, according to the Ministry of Health, the most common signs are:
- Breast enlargement;
- Nausea;
- More sleep;
- Hungrier;
- Increased urinary frequency;
- Increased feeling of tiredness.
Some women are more sensitive to hormonal changes or have conditions that favor the exacerbation of some symptoms, the ministry points out. Moreover, even these symptoms do not guarantee the occurrence of pregnancy. Therefore, after noticing one or more warning signs, it is recommended to take a pregnancy test. In case of a positive result it is necessary to contact a health unit to start the prenatal routine.
