One of the infected people is from Mogi das Cruzes and the other from Suzano, metropolitan region of São Paulo
Two cases of malaria have been recorded, one of the infected resides in the city of Mogi das Cruzes and the other in Suzano, metropolitan region of São Paulo. The municipal epidemiological surveillance monitors the situation.
“Both people are already well and are awaiting the final examination, carried out by the Emílio Ribas Institute, to confirm their recovery”, we read in a note released by the municipality of Mogi. According to the statement sent to bandthe infected people participated in a rescue operation in the Serra do Mar, between the municipalities of Biritiba Mirim and Bertioga, a place of forests and waterfalls.
The Municipality of Suzano confirmed the report of Band news that one of the infected people is a 42-year-old firefighter, diagnosed on December 23. There is one other infected resident in the municipality, but an agricultural engineer who arrived from Angola, already being treated for the disease, in November.
Following the reports, the Municipality of Suzano also informed band who searched for the transmitter mosquito in the city, but found no evidence of the insect’s presence. “It is worth remembering that, in Brazil, the Anopheles mosquito is present in the Amazon region, extra-Amazon region and in the areas of the coastal Atlantic Forest”, adds the note from the municipal council. According to data from the São Paulo government’s Epidemiological Surveillance Center, six cases of malaria were recorded in the state in 2023.
