The perfect excuse to ski: the luxury resort has instructors, access to the slopes, meals and even guaranteed snow included in a package starting from R$ 13,304
A luxury resort for the family to ski in freedom. In summary, this is the mission of Club Med Val d’Isère, in the French Alps. An old hotel which, with an investment of only 50 million euros, has been completely renovated to become the first Exclusive Collection, the top of the range of the chain.
Being at the top means having one employee for every two, exceeding three guests. People who say “bonjour” to you every half dozen steps, even without speaking French. People from 23 countries, including Brazilians. Including Italians, Israelis, Turks and Mexicans who do not speak the national language but are available in their own and, almost always, also in English.
People preparing pancakes, eggs, juice and crepes for breakfast; for lunch, hamburgers, ceviche and Moroccan couscous; for afternoon tea, waffles, madeleines and hot chocolate; for dinner foie gras, raclette, prawns and pizza.
People specialized in teaching skiing and snowboarding, aquagym and après-ski yoga. People to entertain children aged 4 to 17. People dance, sing and play in bar and nightclub shows. People who pay attention full time.
All this is part of the Club Med combination, even the snow. No, it is not a force of expression: the traveler who pays from R$22,616 in January or R$13,304 in April to spend seven days in Val d’Isère is guaranteed ice and slopes in excellent condition. Otherwise the hotel group will arrange to transfer you to another resort.
“It’s a concept of happiness. It’s not how much it costs, it’s not the beauty, it’s not the food, it’s the experience of the customer who comes to have fun in a place specializing in upscale all-inclusives for families”, explains Janyck Daudet, administrator company delegate in South America.
That’s where freedom lives: eat and drink what you want, don’t worry about children, have the beauty of the landscape guaranteed, the ski pass (slope access card worth €66 per day), expert instructors and equipment rental on site. In short, everything combines to ski freely.
Well, it’s worth remembering that Michael Schumacher’s accident is just a decade in the making and that, despite its local appeal, the sport is dangerous. Yes, there are small children who have just stopped crawling and are already slipping on the ice. However, they are taught from school from early childhood to practice. They adapt to the discomfort of narrow boots and heavy skis, learning from then on to choose glasses, helmets, gloves and hats.

If this is not your case, calm down, failure does not await you. On the contrary, the luxury resort is one of the best alternatives for first timers, as there is a team ready to monitor and recommend which of the more than 160 slopes to explore. Intermediate and advanced skiers, in turn, can share some of the most contested kilometers from professional skiers.
Considering the overall work, today 80% of Med’s winter customers are Brazilian. After all, it doesn’t snow here and yes, Brazil is a nation that loves having everything included in a single price and, as a bonus, being pampered.
Luckily, cuddling isn’t limited to dedicated instructors. There is a teacher in the pool to suggest exercises and also to bring some water to those who linger in the hot hydromassage tub exposed to the freezing air. In the restaurant, despite the buffet service, there is always someone keeping an eye on empty glasses and plates, both to refill them and to remove them.
When it comes to filling them, no parsimony is required, but prudence never hurt anyone. Tuna, shrimp, mussels, risotto, chicken, filet mignon, two types of pasta, ten types of bread and more than a dozen desserts will vie for your attention, but they don’t need to be challenged.
If there is a tip, in terms of abundance, almost 50 types of cheese stand out. Among these, the local star, Beaufort. Modeled in linen cloth, it is produced with raw “summer” milk (i.e. between June and October) from Tarine or Abondance breed cows, milked above 1,500 meters above sea level, according to traditional techniques.
There are also other well-matured Savoyard specialties, such as reblochon, tomme de savoie, raclette and chevrotin, as well as Italian examples, such as taleggio and gorgonzola, after all the border is less than one hundred kilometers away.
As for meals, the “heated” lunch on the hotel terrace is unbeatable. Easy to use, it can include an oyster counter, a barbecue station (including vegetables), a sausage and dessert cart, mulled wine and other drinks to the sound of a DJ. It will certainly bring together the excited stories of morning skiers, the insights of those who went shopping and the concentration of those who until that moment could not leave their king size bed full of pillows.
A pleasant encounter like the aforementioned jacuzzi and the suites which, in addition to the irresistible beds, have a constantly stocked minibar and an enchanting view of the snow-capped mountains. It doesn’t hurt to repeat, everything is completely included.
Ah, what’s not in the package? Spa treatments, items from the shop, ski rental and airport transfer (from Lyon or Geneva, which costs almost R$1000 each). The rest is part of the happy combination of wallet-free holidays at your fingertips.
