The surgeon explains how to hide silicone scars when choosing a specific location to make the incision. Find out which one
The insertion of a silicone prosthesis is the second most performed plastic surgery procedure in Brazil. That is, after liposuction, data from the International Society of Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) indicates. In fact, the country is second only to the United States in the number of procedures performed each year.
However, this does not eliminate the various doubts and taboos surrounding the surgery. An example of this is the fear that many patients have of having a scar after silicone implants. However, it is possible to increase breast volume without leaving any marks on the body, as explained by Dr. José Montedonioplastic surgeon member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP).
“In addition to choosing the size, shape and profile of the prosthesis, another very important decision to define the location and size of the scar is the location of the incision (cut),” explains the doctor.
How to hide silicone scar?
According to the surgeon, it is possible to hide the sign of the operation by positioning the prosthesis through a cut made exactly in the natural crease of the armpits. “The scar is located in the fold of the armpit, which after the healing period will merge with the fold itself, becoming imperceptible,” explains the specialist.
Josué emphasizes that the main advantage of this technique is that it leaves no scars on the breast. “This allows the woman to wear bikinis and underwear without worrying about whether the scar will appear,” says the doctor.
According to the plastic surgeon, this technique is also highly recommended for patients who have small, underdeveloped breasts with no breast fold (the crease under the breast).
Furthermore, another great advantage is related to limitation and recovery times. “This is because, by not having the pressure of the prosthesis on the scar, it allows you to return to your activities more quickly and with greater freedom in terms of movement”, explains the professional.
Are there any contraindications?
However, the doctor warns that patients with breast ptosis, or even more intense sagging skin, may have some limitations. After all, these cases do not allow the removal or correction of excess skin.
“Because it is a more complex technique and has a greater learning curve, not all plastic surgeons master the technique and, therefore, cannot offer this option to their patients. However, when indicated, it is the best option for breast augmentation”, concludes the professional.
