Actor Juliano Cazarré announced on Instagram the birth of his daughter Maria Guilhermina on Tuesday, 21. In the post, the actor claimed that the little girl came into the world with a rare congenital heart disease known as Ebstein’s anomaly.

In the publication, the interpreter of the pawn Alcides in “Pantanal” stated that her daughter has already undergone surgery and is fine: “Maria Guilhermina came with a special heart. During prenatal exams, we found that she had a rare congenital heart disease. Throughout the pregnancy, doctors realized that her case would be one of the rarest and most serious within the anomaly, ”she wrote.

Cardiologist Paulo de Abreu Neto spoke with the Land and explained what Ebstein’s Anomaly is, what are the possible causes and treatments. Comprehend:

What is Ebstein’s anomaly? How rare is it?

Ebstein’s anomaly is a rare heart disease of the tricuspid valve, affecting only one in 10,000 children, with an equal distribution between boys and girls.

We can understand the heart as a house, with walls and doors through which blood passes. This anomaly changes the position of one of these ports, the tricuspid valve is malformed and is positioned in a very low position, allowing blood to flow backward from the ventricle into the atrium.

These abnormalities cause congestive heart failure, a backflow of blood that results in a buildup of fluid in the lungs, and an insufficient flow of oxygenated blood to the body.

What is the cause of this anomaly?

Some studies link this anomaly to the use of certain drugs such as lithium or benzodiazepines (a group of commonly used psychotropic drugs) in the first trimester of pregnancy. Remembering that these drugs are strongly contraindicated for pregnant women. There is also the possibility of some genetic factor.

How to identify the disease?

Diagnosis is made by fetal echocardiography during antenatal care or conventional echocardiography in children, adolescents or adults. Hence the importance of well-detailed prenatal care.

How is the treatment carried out?

Treatment depends on how the disease manifests itself in each child. Some can be treated with medications to control congestive heart failure or abnormal heart rhythm.

In severe cases, which cause arrhythmia or low oxygen levels (cyanosis), surgery will likely be required.

Is there a sequel?

The baby will be treated as having congenital heart disease and may have some restrictions, such as exercise for example. But medicine has evolved a lot and there is a much longer survival time.
