The recording of a family in Guizhou, China has brought laughter from users around the world. In the recording, a child takes an unusual attitude when faced with his father’s loud snoring.

Published on YouTube by the Newsflare page on December 22, 2023, the recording shows the moment the child tries to sleep between his parents in bed, when he is startled by his father’s snoring.

Annoyed by the noise, the child approaches his father’s face and slaps him, returning to his place shortly after. Later, when the father starts snoring again, the child slaps him even harder, amusing the mother who was witnessing the scene.

To the Earthotolaryngologist Gabriela Pilon Meira explains that snoring is not normal, which is why it is always a good idea to seek help from a professional.

In children, recurrent snoring can occur due to hypertrophy of the adenoids and tonsils, an increase in lymphatic tissue that occurs due to allergies, or as a defense against recurrent infections.

In adults, snoring can be the result of a deviated septum, hypertrophy of the turbinates, flaccidity of the pharynx, nasal problems and even obesity.

“The ENT evaluates from the pharynx, to see if there is any obstructive cause in the nose or any obstructive cause in the throat, through an examination called nasofibroscopy. So we take a camera from the nose and look at the throat to see what is blocking it,” explains the specialist.

Another important point is that snoring can be associated with sleep apnea, when pauses in breathing occur and oxygen stops reaching the tissues. The condition can lead to consequences such as increased blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, and an increased chance of stroke (stroke).

“When we talk about sleep apnea, that’s when the intervention must be early, to avoid worse consequences for the patient,” warns the otolaryngologist.
