Healthier and happier: 8 habits that will transform your life

Expert in human and personal development shares eight secrets capable of completely changing your habits and routine

The month of January brings with it the spirit of new beginnings and novelties as it represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. However, setting goals and objectives may not be as efficient because it is something big. Therefore, the ideal is to establish new habits.

Human and personal development expert Gisele Hedler explains that understanding and harnessing the power of habits allows us to create positive changes in our lives. This is because it is a powerful tool for achieving our long-term goals.

“Our brain loves routines, and habits are automatic routines that help our mind not waste the energy we develop over time, often without realizing it. These repetitive actions have a profound impact on our lives, shaping our productivity, health, success and happiness,” explains Gisele.

The professional shares eight small habits that are easy to adopt for a healthier and happier life. Watch.

1- Start your day with gratitude and planning

As soon as you wake up, take 5 deep breaths and be grateful for another day of life. This is because the daily practice of gratitude, recognizing the good things in life, helps us maintain a positive perspective, according to the expert. So, before you even get out of bed, mentally review your day and visualize the results you expect from everything, advises Gisele.

2 – Expose yourself to the sun and stretch

When you get up, expose yourself to the sun and stretch, avoiding the use of screens as much as possible. Hedler explains that the brightness of the sun helps the body regulate its biological program and stretching, in turn, helps by stimulating the brain to produce certain hormones responsible for well-being.

“If you don’t have access to the outside, open the window and look at the sky. This habit will help you have more energy, since the routine in contact with the light will discharge the cortisol necessary to start the day,” he comments.

3 – Drink lots of water on an empty stomach

Even before breakfast, drink at least 400 ml of water. “Consider that, during sleep, your body has not stopped working and you have spent long hours without drinking water. In addition, water fasting helps cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, eliminating toxins accumulated during the night, as well as increasing the metabolism and contribute to weight loss,” he explains.

4 – Hug your family

Hug more often and more intensely the people who live with you, be they your partner, your children and even your pets. This habit demonstrates appreciation, cultivates patience and stimulates the release of dopamine and serotonin, hormones responsible for pleasure and well-being respectively.

5 – Disconnect digitally for a moment

Take moments out of your day to digitally disconnect by turning off your phone, silencing notifications, or even putting it on airplane mode. This can foster a healthy balance between the online and offline worlds, the expert points out.

6 – Increase your consumption of fruit, salads and nuts

“Distribute portions of fruit, raw nuts, and salad to eat throughout the day. These foods are rich in fiber and good fats, which will help regulate your gut and even your mood,” explains Gisele.

7 – Read at least 5 pages of a book a day

Cultivate the habit of daily reading, be it books, articles or relevant news. This will broaden your knowledge and perspective, as well as being a brain exercise.

8 – Practice self-reflection

Get into the habit of setting aside time at the end of the day to reflect on your actions, goals and values. “List everything you think wasn’t so good and how you could improve and the best thing that happened to you. This helps you stay on track with your life goals and purposes,” the practitioner teaches.
